The clearest signal of how a project will run is how precisely the scope is written before it starts.
What a complete scope describes
Removal and disposal of the existing roof. Substrate, batten and underlay treatment. The roofing profile, material and finish. Every flashing type. Gutters, downpipes and drainage. Penetrations — flues, vents, skylights. Access and scaffolding. Site protection and clean-down. Programme and staging. Documentation at handover.
What unstated items usually mean
If an item is not written down, it is generally either excluded or assumed. Both become variations later. Ask for exclusions to be stated as clearly as inclusions.
